The early days back in 2014!
Saturday Morning Cycling Club started in 2014 from a small group of like minded friends, both male and female, who met every Saturday morning at 06.00am for a cycle ride of approximately 30-40 miles.

The group of friends found that early morning cycling had many benefits. It is a great way to start the day, you can cycle for miles without seeing traffic, enjoy the scenery and early morning sun rises, catch up with your cycling friends and it is done and dusted before 09.00am - leaving the rest of the day free!

Many cycle routes were planned in advanced. These routes varied and took in areas of Lisburn, Belfast, Carrickfergus, Larne, Antrim, Dundonald, Saintfield, Hillsborough, Dromore, Banbridge, Lurgan, Portadown, Moira, Armagh, Aghalee, Gawley's Gate, Crumlin and Glenavy. Some weeks were spent climbing Divis Mountain, Slieve Croob, Dree Hill and Spelga.

Charity Cycle
With each passing week saw new faces to the group which was very encouraging and made the cycle runs even more enjoyable. With the group growing in numbers, it was decided that a charity cycle would be a good idea. There were many things to consider such as a chosen charity, cycle jerseys, a route, transport etc. It was decided that the route would be the coastal route from Portrush to Lisburn on Sunday 6th September 2014.

The chosen charity was Northern Ireland Children's Hospice. The jersey was designed which included a number of sponsors from many local businesses for the chosen charity. So on a wet and windy Sunday the group traveled from Lisburn to Portrush via coach to then cycled back to Lisburn. Some people cycled the scenic road around the coast line to Torr Head while others took a flatter route! There were many short breaks and all levels of fitness was catered for. It was a very enjoyable day with some clocking up 100 miles!

As the group continued to grow it was decided that the group would register with Cycling Ireland and become a Cycling Club.
